Having need to leave the sheep for a day, he put the wolf in charge of the flock. The wolf saw his opportunity and began at once to devour the sheep. The shepherd on his return beholding the destruction of his flock, exclaimed, ‘“ Fool that I am! yet I deserve no less for trusting my sheep with a wolf.”
