New Year
Poem★★★★We have read of a college girl who, as she tacked the New Year calendar to the wall said: “It is going to be a beautiful year!”’ “How do you know?” asked her roommate. “Well,” she replied, ‘‘a day isn’t a long time, and I know it is going to be beautiful because I am going to take a day at a time and make it so, to see that every one of those 365 days gets at least one beautiful thing in it “through my efforts.” Her New Year motto might be, in the words of David, ‘“‘So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Why do we heap huge mounds of years Before us and behind, And scorn the little days that pass Like angels on the wind?
The point
A college girl commits to making each day beautiful through intentional effort, finding the poetry in daily commitment to excellence.
