Married Misery

StoryIllustrationAnalogy

There was a woman a number of years ago who was married to a military man who was a real tyrant. And right after she got married she found out she had made a big mistake, but she was committed to the sanctity of marriage.

This fellow would make a list for her every morning and he would dictate how she should spend her day. It said, Wake up—5:30, build a fire, fix my breakfast, pack my lunch. Then he had her cleaning chores mapped out for that day, the shopping and picked out all her appointments.

And he would come home at the end of the day and ask if she did what he had told her. He would take his white glove and inspect everything. It was almost unbearable. But after a few years of being married to this scoundrel, God in His mercy laid him to rest.

A few years later she met a fellow that was the diametric opposite. This fellow was nice and he was very thoughtful and considerate. He always thought about her needs and was loving and took care of her and wondered if she was comfortable. And several years after being married to this man, it was a happy marriage, she was cleaning the attic.

She found one of the lists of her first husband. Right when she found it the hair stood up on the back of her neck.

“Oh, that rascal.” Wake up at 5:30... “I still wake up at five-thirty.” Build the fire...

“I still build the fire.” Cook breakfast... “I still cook breakfast.” I still pack his lunch...

She went down the list, and lo and behold, she was doing everything on the old husbands list she wasn’t thinking about. You know why? She loved the person she was married to.
