Wyatt's Dream
Testimony★★★Tuesday, June 7, 2005, 1:00 AM I just awoke from having an impressive dream. After a busy day of caring for the things of the world I returned to my mother’s home very late at night. It was dark outside. My brother was already asleep in the living room on a mat on the floor. I was exhausted and began to prepare for sleep. But suddenly a bright light began to shine through the front windows in the living room. I thought at first it was car lights, but it was too bright. It grew more brilliant by the second until it was brighter than the noonday sun.
I squinted out the big pane windows and could see where the bright light was coming from: It was from the clouds. Brighter and brighter it shown, closer and closer it came. It was more glorious than anything I had ever seen before. I could now see a being in the clouds. It was this being that was lighting everything up. All of this was happening in seconds. Suddenly, it occurred to me what was taking place. Then, in my dream, I did something that I never thought I would ever do. I cursed. I swore and woke my brother up and demanded that he take notice of what was happening. As reality was setting in, listening at what I just said, I knew my heart was corrupt. My profanity was evidence of that fact. I had not been gaining the victory in my life as I knew God was calling me to. I was a slave to secret sin and I knew it, no matter how many thought I was an upstanding Christian. But now here I was at the Second coming of Christ and I was a lost man. I could not hide my darkness from the Father of lights. A thousand thoughts rushed through my mind in that surprising moment. I knew it would just be a matter of time before my flesh would begin to melt from the glory of Jesus. A sickening feeling, like I had never felt before, came over me in the terrorizing thought that I would be consumed by His brightness. Terror and shame, remorse and anger, flushed my body. The thought came to me, or rather a hope, that all of this was simply a dream. But taking it all in I had every evidence that it was real. Jesus is here! He was in reality, actually here. Right then, the house around me begin to dissolve. As the front of the house melted away, I braced for the inevitable, clenching my eyes, but instead of feeling heat, I began to lift off the floor. The roof had vanished and I was being lifted up, lifted toward this glorious Christ! Confusion envelop me. I was surely lost, not ready for the advent of Christ. Yet, here I was, ascending higher and higher. Then, I saw it: the most joyous, happy face I had ever seen. What an attraction it had to me. Dismissing thoughts of guilt and impending destruction, I too, began to smile. The relief that I was saved overwhelmed me with joy. I thought that I must have gotten it wrong somewhere. He didn’t require absolute victory. He must have looked over my bad habits and forgave them, even when I wasn’t seeking it. I marveled at the mercy of God. After being in the air for some time we beheld Jesus land softly on the ground. I landed further away and was swarmed by those who didn’t go up. It turned out that I was one of the few that went up; not everyone did. They asked so many questions. Even though I really didn’t have answers I still became sort of a celebrity for my unique status. Later that day we assembled into the largest outdoor gathering I had ever seen. The performers on the stage were playing loud, energetic music. Surely there were more than a million there. As one of the few special ones that ascended at the appearing they invited me onto the stage. I was glad to take part, though I was confused about why this kind of music that mimicked the world’s music would be used. There was drums and electric guitars and everyone was jumping up and down like in a mosh pit. But everyone was so happy. I supposed that I must have been wrong about appropriate Christian music, otherwise Jesus wouldn’t allow it at this gathering. Again I was confused. Then I was ushered onto the stage where the band was just wrapping up their latest number and bowing at the thunderous applause. This throng was continually praying and praising God. As I watched from the back of the stage I saw the next speaker being introduced. His name was Kenneth Copeland. This was the head leader of the whole assembly. As soon as I saw him step up and with power begin addressing the multitude I could feel a pit beginning to form in my stomach. Then it all clicked. Wow! Wow! Wow! I knew it. This was not the appearing of our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ! This was a great counterfeit! The truth was so plain now, I could clearly see that this was the appearing, not of the Christ, but of the Antichrist. It all added up. I was desperately lost at this “appearing”, yet I was made to feel a false security in my sin. The manner of the coming was all wrong. Yes, Jesus would come in the clouds, but the Bible says He would take us to be with Him in heaven, not come walk on the earth. His feet would not touch the earth! Furthermore, He would not choose a leader that denies the truth and practices spiritualism. When I saw Copeland, I was furious. I knew this man was united with the catholic pope, not with Jesus. As Copeland finished his rousing speech, I found myself rushing forward to grab the microphone. As I got there I said boldly, “Remember me? I was one of the few that were taken up in the air. I was the one who flew over such and such a power line. Today I praise God! He is good!” At that, the crowd roared in praise. Reluctantly, the host granted me the free use of the microphone. I looked out at the audience. Before me where hundreds of thousands of people and via satellite probably millions more. They would all hear what I was about to say.
And here is what I recall saying: “Friends, what you are hearing tonight are lies, straight lies. I testify before you that today we witnessed a false appearing of Christ. The Bible declares that Christ would come in a different manner, by not touching the earth, to take the righteous to heaven, but this is not what happened. If it was the true return of Jesus I would not have been saved today because my heart was not right with God.” At this point, the others on the stage began to try to take the microphone from me and drag me away, but as they came near they became almost frozen and weak, too weak to stop me from speaking. “Oh, friends, I was professing godliness but I was denying the power of God by my works. I was saying by my sinful addiction that I didn’t believe God could save me. I was serving sin, not God. Furthermore, you must know that Copeland does not keep the commandments of God. He breaks and teaches others to break the Holy Sabbath.” I spoke for a moment more, forgetting what else I had said. Then they finally got the microphone and pulled me to the ground. This is when I awoke. It was 1:00 AM exactly. I was sweating and breathing heavy. The reality of what I was in my dream began to sink in. Never had I experienced such a thing as this before. In that moment, I crawled off my top bunk (I was on year 7 of my 14 year prison term) and kneeled down next to my footlocker and cried out to God to save me. I didn’t just want to be saved from the penalty of sin. Yes, I wanted that! But even more I wanted victory over the power of sin in my life. I wanted victory over my appetite and my passions. I wanted victory over my quick tongue, and my lazy devotional life. I prayed that Jesus would cleanse me from all iniquity. I needed to be an overcomer! I must be an overcomer! I must trust Jesus now for eternal life. More than anything, I needed to know the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. That morning I realized my own weakness and my need for utter dependence on God. I saw how easy it was to be deceived by the miracles of Satan. I reflected on how beautiful this counterfeit was. He held a smile that was so awesome as to not want to let anyone be lost. It was beautifully deceiving. How could I be sure I would not be tricked when that time comes? Or between now and then. I must study more. I must surrender more. I must be baptized with the Holy Spirit daily. Was the dream from God? I don’t know. I doubt what I saw will actually take place, but whatever the schemes of the wicked one are, it will be so convincing that the whole world will follow him. After arising from my knees, I quickly began to write what I saw so I would never forget the lessons I learned early that Tuesday morning.
The point
A prisoner's vivid dream of a false, deceptive second coming of Christ exposes his own unreadiness and drives him to seek real victory over sin.
