The Three Leading Lights

Analogy★★★★

The story is often told of Dr. F. B. Meyer who was on the bridge of a ship coming into port. He asked the captain, a friend of his, how the pilot could guide the ship into harbor with such confidence. “With this port,” replied the captain, “it is really very simple. Do you see those three lights ahead? They are called ‘leading lights.’ At present we are at right angles to them but soon we shall make a turn and you will see those lights merge into a straight line. Then we know that we are right on course for the harbor.”

The point

Dr. F. B. Meyer learns from a ship captain how three leading lights guide a ship safely into harbor, illustrating spiritual guidance.
