The Lawn Mowing Pastor
Story★★★A pastor of a small church was willing to live on a very low salary and loved to work around the parsonage, keeping both hose and church grounds in good repair.
When this pastor left for another church assignment nearby, the new pastor hired someone to do a lot of the chores, including mowing the parsonage and church lawns. This all cost the church more money.
This change became a concern to some of the elders of the church. One day one of them approached the new pastor and tried to bring up the matter tactfully. “You know, our previous pastor mowed the lawn himself. Have you considered this approach?” he asked.
“Yes,” the new pastor responded. “And I asked him to continue. But he doesn’t want to do it anymore.”

The point
When elders questioned the new pastor's decision to hire lawn help instead of mowing himself like his predecessor, he revealed the previous pastor had simply refused to keep doing it.
