A Prayer for Help
Story★★★★A drugstore proprietor was aroused from bed at the back of his store late one night by the plea of a small child for a prescription to be filled for his mother. The druggist grumbled and grouched as he took the container from the shelf and filled a small bottle for the child. After the child had left with the medicine and the druggist was putting away his supply, he discovered that in his ill temper he had mistakenly filled the boy’s bottle with a deadly poison.
What to do? He did not know where the child lived. He fell on his knees and, confessing his sin of impatience, pleaded with God to intervene to save an innocent mother’s life. While he was praying another knock came at the door.
There stood the youngster. Amid sobs and pleas for patience, the lad explained he had tripped in the darkness and broken the bottle. Immediately after sending the boy on his way with the proper medicine, the proprietor knelt once again, in thanksgiving to an all-seeing God.
The point
A drowsy druggist mistakenly filled poison instead of medicine; while praying for God's intervention, the child returned saying he'd tripped and broken the bottle—all changed to correct medicine and delivered.
