How Much Art Thou Sorry
Story★★★★There is a story that tells how a crowd was watching a disaster that had befallen a peddler and that had wrecked his cart. Among them was a Quaker man. Many were the expressions of sympathy for the poor peddler in his loss. Amidst all the words the Quaker stepped forward: “I am sorry five pounds,” he said, handing a five-pound note to the peddler. Then he turned to the crowd: “Friend,” he said to each, “how much art thou sorry?”

The point
A Quaker man demonstrates genuine sympathy by giving five pounds to a peddler whose cart was wrecked, then challenges the crowd to quantify their sorry.
