Zooplankton

Zooplankton live in the ocean, particularly near the coasts. These infant animals, including fish and eggs, barnacles, sea anemones, krill (shrimplike crustaceans), and even jellyfish, may spend their entire lives on the ocean’s surface. But some, such as sea anemones and octopuses, eventually settle to the bottom to spend their adult life in one place.

Some zooplankton are vegetarian, eating only phytoplankton (small plant life). Some zooplankton feed on each other. But all have one thing in common. Ocean currents gather them into large swarms and carry them long distances.

They serve as the main food for many larger creatures. In fact, whales can eat more than 4,000 pounds of plankton in one feeding. If the currents didn’t spread this important food source around, many sea creatures would die.

The story of Jesus is supposed to go to all the world. You have an important part in spreading it. Maybe you’re sharing it with friends and classmates through Christlike words and actions. As you grow you may take the good news door to door. Eventually you may even become a missionary. But it’s important to start now.

Paul said, “God, with his mercy, gave us this work to do. So we don’t give up” (ICB). Ask God to give you opportunities to spread the message of His love.

MISSION: With friends visit a senior citizens home. Sing, listen, and share Jesus’ love with the residents.
