Brother
Story★★★★Turgenev, the Russian writer, said he met a beggar one day who asked him for money. The writer felt in his pockets but there was nothing there. The beggar waited and his outstretched hand twitched nervously. Embarrassed and confused, Turgenev seized the dirty hand and pressed it. “Don’t be angry with me, brother,” he said. “I have nothing with me.”
The beggar raised his bloodshot eyes and smiled. “You called me brother,” he said. “That is a gift indeed.”
The point
Turgenev had no money for a beggar but called him brother and pressed his hand, and the beggar treasured that word as a gift greater than money.
