Historical Account★★★★In the 11th century, King Henry III of Bavaria grew tired of court life and applied to Prior Richard at a local monastery to live there as a contemplative. When asked if he understood the pledge of obedience, Henry said, ‘The rest of my life I will be too obedient to you as Christ leads.’ But Prior Richard told him to go back to his throne and serve faithfully where God had placed him. Upon King Henry’s death, it was written that ‘the king learned to rule by being obedient.’
