COME—GO
Illustration★★★★Jesus says, “Come to me,” in order that he may say, “Go ye therefore.” We cannot go unless we come to Jesus and put ourselves under his yoke of humanity’s wretchedness and woe. Nor can we come to Jesus unless we also go. We cannot find rest to our souls unless we take his yoke upon us.
It is only as we become “meek and lowly in heart,” asking nothing for ourselves but to share the yoke with Jesus, giving our lives as he gave his to teach that best and happiest way of living which is the Kingdom of God, that we really discover what it means to come to Jesus. Jesus invites us to come in order that we may go. We come to him that we may go for him and with him to lift the yoke of superstition and error, of a guilty conscience and an evil life, of misfortune and despair from the necks of boys and girls and men and women of every race, and color, and creed.
We come to him that we may go for him and with him to bring in the Kingdom of God.
The point
True discipleship unites Jesus's two calls, 'come to me' for rest and 'go therefore' to serve, so coming to Christ always sends believers out to others.
