FELLOWSHIP

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

As many drops of water combine to make the ocean, and many grains of sand unite and form the earth, and as the innumerable rays of the heavens blend into the one principal light—so must we live in fellowship with others, if we would make the most of ourselves, and do the most for them. The drop of water which separates itself from other drops of water is helping to defeat the beneficent purpose of the sea; if all the rest did what this one has done, there would be no sea. If all the grains of sand should repent themselves of their unity, there would be no earth; and if all the rays of light refused to combine, the world would be left in darkness. God’s physical universe fulfills the purpose of its creation because in spite of innumerable diversities, it is one at its center. And because all are one at the center, all nature declares the glory of God and renders obedience to the will of God. All the elements of nature obey God’s fundamental law of fellowship, and united they achieve his purpose.
