World Wide Mission
Illustration★★★The field is the world. Matt. 13:38 Jesus offered a pattern of life to be lived out in this present world as we find it. Self-exalting nationalism and isolationism, then and now, find no support from him.
Mediaeval monks withdrew from an evil world and lived unnatural and unproductive lives but they had no commission nor approval of Jesus. The field, the soil and substance of our lives, is around about us and the Gospel is framed for men who live in the world as it is and have to deal with its wheat and tares, its soil and stones, and good and evil, as all in the day’s work. The setting for God’s eternal purposes is the world, the whole wide world as the material home of all men of every race and country.
In this age of totalitarian states and God-defying dictators, Jesus again is reminding us that his plans are for all humanity and that race prejudices have no place in Christian attitudes. The breadth and scope of Jesus’ program forever goes out beyond “the town- ship mind” to “every creature” and every human life and problem.
The point
Jesus' field is the whole world, not just one's own town or nation, and his mission excludes no race or people.
