Finding Life's Meaning

Illustration 5. Here is a little message to those who are just beginning to look around to find what life means. You have just begun to get away from boy and girl days. You would like to know for sure about God and this unseen world.

Listen to what this man says: “I have lived near the Atlantic or the Pacific Ocean the most of my life yet I have never crossed either one. When I was a boy I wondered what it would be like to be out on the vast ocean, no land in sight.

I have desired many times that I might be able to take this ocean voyage but have never been able to. “But one time I sailed from New Orleans to New York City.

One day I was out on the deck looking westward. I knew that off there somewhere was the coast of Florida, but see it I could not.

We seemed to be sailing over a great circular body of water. As I was looking, suddenly I said to myself, ‘Why, if you were out on the ocean, half way between the United States and Europe, it would be just like this. You would see nothing there that you do not see here. And now you 80 THE ILLUSTRATION know what it is like to cross the ocean.

It is exactly like this.’ Any- one who is sailing anywhere out of sight of the land, even though the land be but a mile beyond the point where he can see, is seeing all any- one does when crossing the greatest ocean in the world.”

You who are starting life want to get out there somewhere, in some great existence or experience and be thrilled with the knowledge that this lets you know that there is a God, our Father in Heaven. You do not have to go anywhere beyond the place where you live. Go alone and there you will find all about God that anyone finds anywhere. He is there and will let you know that.
