Complain All You Like
IllustrationStory★★★★A young lady went into a diner and sat down at a booth. Several seats away from her, a man began complaining that it was too hot in the diner. He called the waiter over and said, “It’s too hot in here, turn on the air conditioner!” The waiter said, “Of course, sir, whatever you say.”
A few minutes later the man began complaining again and called the waiter to his table. “Now it’s too cold. Turn the air conditioner off!” Again the waiter said, “Of course, sir, whatever you say.”
All during her meal, the lady watched this scene repeat itself several times. Each time the waiter smiled and said, “Of course, sir, whatever you say.” As the lady was paying her ticket, she said sympathetically to the waiter, “He must be driving you crazy, getting you to turn the air conditioner on and off all the time.” The waiter replied, “Him drive me crazy?
No chance! I’m driving him crazy. We don’t even have an air conditioner!”
The point
A perpetually complaining man demands a waiter turn the air conditioner on and off repeatedly; the waiter reveals there is no air conditioner—he was never doing anything, yet the man believed it.
