Pearl Oyster Story
Nature NuggetStory★★★★I found this pearl oyster when I was diving many years ago in the Marshall Islands. As I was diving, I found it, pried it free, took it to the surface, and pried it open thinking I would find a giant pearl. But inside it still has the mother of pearl, right?
That mantle that covers the soft-bodied animal lays down a very shiny thin layer of this mother-of-pearl every day making the shell bigger. And so when we think about this pearl oyster, it’s just doing its job in a very boring way.
But meanwhile, inside, because of an irritant, if it would have had some kind of grain of sand or parasite, it would layer up over and over until the longer the trial, the opportunity for something beautiful is there.
