Temptation; Sin
Illustration★★★★On May 1, 1960, an American U2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union, and pilot Gary Powers was captured by the KGB and imprisoned. The U2 plane wasn’t supposed to be flying in Soviet airspace, but it was thought that flying at 70,000 or so feet would mean the plane and its pilot would be safe, out of the range of enemy fire.
But the military on the ground had surface to air missiles. Although U.S. forces thought Gary Powers was safe at that altitude, he certainly wasn’t. Y ou don’t want to make the mistake of thinking you’re spiritually bulletproof, as though temptation won’t get you, as though you won’t be overtaken by temptation. Every person alive needs to guard against spiritual presumption.
There’s an enemy firing at you. And the only place you’re safe is in the arms and heart of Jesus.
