Give You the Kingdom

Ninety-four-year-old Salomon Mendoza was taking a Bible study. He had served in the Baptist church for 70 years, but had never learned the things of prophecy he was now learning.

At the Bible study, the leader purposed to take a big grease board to draw out the image of Daniel 2. Salomon was really excited that the Bible worker had brought it. At the conclusion of the study, Salomon was asked three questions: Where in the image are we living today? What is the very next thing that takes place in the dream after the description of the feet?

And finally the third question was asked, but before asking the last question, he was directed to the Gospel of Luke to answer this question. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:31, 32; emphasis supplied). He was then asked, “Brother Salomon, what is the Father’s good pleasure?”

There was silence in the home for a moment. He thoughtfully looked at the verse again, looked at the drawing of the image on the grease board, and then he slowly turned his eyes from the grease board to the Bible instructor.

The instructor noticed his eyes began to twinkle and shine. With a shaky voice he answered, “To give us His kingdom.” In the midst of his answer, tears were running down his wrinkled face. He continued to share how beautiful the study was in the book of Daniel, and that from that day forward he was going to seek first the kingdom of God, and not allow the problems in his family, the war situation in this country, and all the worries of this world to discourage him because he was a son of the King.

They both knelt together and prayed. His prayer was one of the most beautiful and sincere prayers ever heard. In his prayer, he mentioned his 70 years of walking with the Lord, and how he thought he knew the Bible, but that he realized there was much more he needed to learn and experience.

It’s amazing to see how one of the most basic prophecy studies can have such a powerful affect on a man’s heart.
