The Blessed Privilege of Mothers

O God, who didst create mothers to a high and holy duty, we thank thee for the example of the beautiful life of the mother of the Savior and for the example of Christ’s devotion to his mother. Open the eyes of mothers everywhere that they may see not only the drudgery of housework and the exacting demands of rearing children, but especially the blessed privilege that is theirs in the opportunity of making the next generation more Christian than theirs and in bringing little ones to thee and to the Savior.

Where we as children have failed to heed the Christian counsel of our parents, or have refused to walk the Christian way they showed us how to walk, forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Where we as parents have failed to teach our children of thee as a loving Father, of Christ as a forgiving Savior, and of thy will, forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Comfort the parents whose hearts are grieved by wayward children and let such children quickly see the folly of their ways.

Let mothers and children who are separated find comfort in the knowledge that thou dost watch over them all. Bless all mothers richly and let them be a blessing to their children; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ;
