All Service Is Sacred
Poem★★★All service, save occasional service, is in a way commonplace, no matter what the trade or the tool; but it is also sacred, and its commonplaceness is a part of its sacredness. Everyday service is holy. We are all God’s instru- ments, and the honor lies not in the thing God has chosen for us to do, but in the spirit and manner in which we do the thing He has appointed for us. ‘Those are deeply significant lines of Browning’s in “Pippa Passes’’: All service ranks the same with God, If now, as formerly He trod Paradise, his presence fills Our earth, each only as God wills Can work—God’s puppets, best and worst, Are we; there is no last nor first.
The point
All work, however ordinary, is holy service to God, as Browning's lines from "Pippa Passes" affirm.
