Gospel Excitement Matters Most
Story★★★John McNeill, the well-known Scottish preacher, was addressing a crowded audience not long ago in a certain place, and he was speaking quite rightly, by way of criticizing certain men in the world of business, men who will forgive excitement of any kind, so long as it is not excitement on the question of the Gospel. Said Mr. McNeill, “I was reading in the newspaper the other day, and I read the market column and saw the statement ‘pig iron excited.’ “ That to the commercial world is an ordinary thing. “But,” he said, “while pig iron may be excited with impunity, if a man gets excited about the things of eternity, about the love of God to man, then that of all things to the cynical man today is the least excusable.”
