confined to his bed with a chronic illness, he told his doctor
that he had to get better within the week because he was
scheduled to make an official trip abroad.
‘Im not a magician,” said the doctor. “At your age, you’ve got
to face reality, I can’t make you young again.”
To which Adenauer replied: “I’m not asking that. I don’t want
to become young again. I just want to keep on getting older.”
