Personality Boosts Attractiveness
Story★★★★A study was done in 2014 called ‘Personality manipulations: Do they modulate facial attractiveness ratings?’ They took 120 men, divided them into 3 groups, and asked them to rate photos of 60 different women. Two weeks later, they rated the same faces again, but this time the photos had 3 different variations: a positive face, a neutral face, and a negative face. There was a significant boost in the attraction rate of those with the positive personality face and a decrease in ratings with those who had a negative face.
Also, in the UK, a small trial was done with 2 groups of 4 girls. They saw a video of a guy reading a script about what he was looking for in a woman. In one, he was saying it in a very positive, upbeat, confident manner, and the other, in a negative, boring manner. Out of the 4 girls who watched the negative video, only 1 said they would go on a date with him. The other group that saw the positive video, 3 out of 4 said they would go on a date with him. Additionally, the group that saw the negative video imposed all these other bad personality traits on him, like being chauvinistic.

The point
Two studies demonstrate that positive personality traits significantly increase perceived facial attractiveness, while negative traits decrease it, showing that inner qualities can influence outer perception.
