Did you ever text the wrong person? Most people have done it. If all you texted was something like, “What time is dinner?” or “Was that one avocado or two?” then there’s no harm done.

A young couple received a text announcing the birth of a child. They realized it was from someone they didn’t know, but they sent congratulations anyway, and the texting continued.

They kept getting updates on the child. So, they texted back and asked what hospital and room number mother and baby were in, and they turned up with gifts for the mother and baby! Although this story had a nice outcome, most of us have learned that we need to be careful when we text to make sure we’re not saying the wrong thing to the wrong person.

Isn’t that true for our words too? Ecclesiastes 10:20 becomes very relevant in this age of electronic communication. “Curse not the king, no not in thy thought, and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber. For a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter. ” Solomon is making the point that we ought to be careful what we say, because things can be repeated that you might hope would never be repeated.

Our words matter. Before you speak, or text, or post, it’s good to stop and think.

“Do I really need to say this? Do I want this heard? How would I feel if this went to someone else?” And really, the best question is, “Does this glorify God?”

If that little bird repeated what you say, how would it sound? If your private words or texts or online posts were made public, how would that be? It’s always better to let God filter your communication.
