Christ Statue: Nations at Peace

For years the people of Argentine and Chile had been at enmity with the other. Much innocent blood had been shed. Many hearts and homes broken. Then some one saw the light.

He fell down before it in rapturous wonder. He showed it to others. As a result, the cannons of destruction were melted down; a colossal statue of Christ made and reared up on the mountain boundary between the two countries. Underneath was placed the inscription: “Sooner shall these mountains crumble into dust than the peoples of Argentine and Chile break the peace which at the feet of Christ, the Redeemer, they have sworn to maintain.”

And so from that lonely peak in the Andes, for many years now, the light — the unarrested light — has been shining in the darkness.
