Janet and the Apparitions

Janet was on a spiritual quest. Because she had no inhibitions, she became involved with everything considered spiritual. She got into macrobiotics, rebirthing, astro-traveling, and the Native American practices and beliefs. When she moved to New Mexico with her two children, she and a would-be prophet began to live together.

Strange happenings started to occur in her home. Demons visited her lodging on a frequent basis. Wanting to divest herself of these frequent harassers, she asked her live-in prophet what to do. The counsel was that she needed to be baptized, and then the spirits would leave her alone.

“But by who and where?” She asked. He directed her to a church. Feeling her urgency, Janet insisted she and her “prophet” find and visit the church immediately.

Saturday morning, they showed up. After the service, they approached the pastor, revealed their desire, and the man insisted on Janet’s immediate baptism.

“I would love to have the honor of baptizing her, but first I need to get better acquainted,” he said. “Besides, this coming week I must go to the Indian Reservation. I will not be able to do anything until I return.” With an obvious look of consternation, the man said, “Let’s go.”

Two weeks later the couple attended the church service again. After the worship service, they again approached the pastor.

“You need to baptize me,” Janet demanded. Pointing at her “prophet,” “He baptized me, and it did not work. The demons are still harassing me and my kids.” “Alright,” said the pastor, “let me visit with you tomorrow.

We can discuss the matter and prepare you for baptism.” With this, the couple left. During the visit, the pastor became acquainted with the man’s background as well as hers. It was obvious that she was an honest seeker, and he wasn’t.

Bible studies began. Janet drank of the living water as soon as she heard it. Her life began to change. This troubled the man.

Finally, being concerned that he was loosing his spiritual grip on her, he demanded that she choose between the pastor and him. The pastor replied, “The choice is between Christ and you.” Janet made the right choice; she chose Christ and was baptized. Once she was baptized into Christ, she was delivered from the demonic harassments, never to be annoyed again.
