The Soul
Poem★★★★The man who loves to preach about the other fellow once arose in one of Mr. Moody’s meetings and said: “I have lived on the Mount of Transfiguration for five years.” ‘““How many souls have you led to Christ?” was Mr. Moody’s reply.
“I do not really know,” replied the gentleman. ‘‘Have you led any?” Mr. Moody again asked.
“I do not know that I have.” ‘Sit down then,” said Mr.
Moody, “for we do not want that kind of mountain-top experiences in our church.”—Record of Christian Work. Earth gets its price for what Earth gives us: The beggar is taxed for a corner to die in, The priest hath his fee who comes and shrives us; We bargain for the graves we lie in. At the devil’s booth are all things sold, Each ounce of dross costs its ounce of gold. For a cap and bells our lives we pay, Bubbles we buy with a whole soul’s tasking; “Tis heaven alone that is given away, “Tis only God may be had for the asking.
The point
True spiritual life is proven not by lofty spiritual claims but by actually leading souls to Christ, and salvation, unlike everything else, is a gift freely given by God.
