The Parable of the Two Wolves
Parable★★★★One evening a young Cherokee went to his grandfather with a heavy heart. He told him that lately he has been struggling with what was right and wrong. The wise grandfather, sensing the great inner turmoil in the young lad’s heart, told him, “My son, inside of you two wolves are fighting for dominion.”
“One is evil: Anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, lust, resentment, lies, pride, superiority, and ego.”
“The other is good: Joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, gentleness, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
The point
A Cherokee grandfather teaches that inside every person two wolves fight—one of evil (anger, envy, greed, pride) and one of good (joy, love, peace, humility)—the one you feed will win.
