Identity Over Addiction

WHEN somebody I know is on drugs, I send them to a group in New Jersey. This is a most unique place. A person addicted to drugs usually can’t see themselves apart from their problem. At this place, the people there look at the individual and don’t let their addiction define them.

If you are a Christian, you are not an addict. You are a blood- bought child of the Living God who already has been given victory over drugs. The staff at this drug rehab reinforces the real truth. Every time they run into a patient, that patient is supposed to identify themselves, not as a drug addict but as a blood-bought child of God who already has victory over drugs.

All of a sudden, after a week or two, the patients begin to believe what they are telling the staff about themselves. The Bible calls this “mediation.”
