The Designer's Name on the Dress
IllustrationTestimonyAnalogy★★★★WHEN entertainers develop a name for themselves, they go into designer clothing with their name. Sometimes it’s clothes or sometimes it’s cologne or perfume. They put their name on their product so you’re not only buying a product, you’re buying a name. When ladies go into the section of a department store that houses the “couture collection,” they are not just looking at merchandise priced high because of the material.
A part of the high price is because of the name. I walked into a store with Sister Evans once that had a large couture collection on one of its floors. All of these items were designer items and carried the designer’s name. I saw a dress for eight thousand dollars.
I decided to feel the material. Now, it was nice, but I don’t care how good that material was, it ain’t worth eight thousand dollars.
I made sure we didn’t stay on that floor long. That dress was not worth eight thousand dollars. It was pretty. It was cute, but not that cute.
The price, however, didn’t just reflect the intrinsic value of the material. The price tag included the designer’s name. Once the designer’s name is attached to some nice material, the price of the material automatically increases in value. Once you put God’s name on something, it increases in value.
Once you say, “God, I’m doing this in Your name,” your service increases in value. Another thing about these couture shops is that they always make your visit there a nice one. The way the store is laid out just makes it a nice place to be. It’s always clean, spacious, and well laid-out in there and they even provide lounge chairs for husbands like me to sit.
Why, I went to one store and they asked me if I wanted something to drink! They offered me a choice of coffee, coke, or tea with cookies. This was no bargain basement! This place offered the best because the names represented in the store were great.
The presence of the name increases the value of the service. If you’re giving God sloppy service, it means you don’t understand His name.
The point
A designer's name on clothing increases its value—similarly, putting God's name on our service increases its value. When we serve in God's name with excellence, we honor His name.
