Living on Fumes
IllustrationAnalogyTestimony★★★★I REGULARLY drive on empty. I stop at the filling station as a last resort. Anytime my wife has to drive my vehicle, her question is always the same. She wants to know if there is anything in the tank.
To put it another way, I ride on fumes. I do it because I’ve gotten away with it so often! There’s a little thrill getting to the station in the nick of time. One time, my wife was riding with me while my gauge showed “E.”
She made no short order of telling me that I would get caught and my car would run out of gas. I did run out of gas, but I was near an exit ramp.
I took the ramp downhill and coasted into the gas station just off the service road at the bottom of the decline! There have been other times where I wasn’t so fortunate. I’ve put up my hood at times just to avoid embarrassment and to make everyone think it was mechanical problems instead of an empty gas tank. I live on fumes.
And to live a prayer-less life is to live your spiritual life with fumes.
The point
Living dangerously on an empty gas tank parallels living a spiritually powerless life without prayer.
