Catching the Spirit: Memories of Blessing
Poem★★★“I am not anxious to found a school nor to live in a palace but I am anxious to catch Raphael’s spirit and to reproduce, in myself, his ideals.” The eternal splendor of God waits to be expressed through our lives. This Holy Communion service opens a window upward. It gives opportunity for us all to catch the spirit of Christ by being with Him.
“And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” (II Sam. 23:15). In his day of conflict, David’s mind went back to an old well. The memory of it brought before him the scenes of his childhood.
A man went back to the home of his boyhood, which had passed into the hands of strangers. He went from room to room until the attic was reached. There, draped in cobwebs, stood an old spinning wheel. “It is my spinning wheel!” he cried.
“If you will look you will see a blood mark. One day I cut my finger and my mother bound it up.
You must let me have that spinning wheel to take home to my children. It brings back the memories of other days!” Blessed is the man in whose life are the inspiring associations of days gone by.
The point
Just as David longed for water from his boyhood well, cherished memories of past encounters with Christ can renew our devotion in the present.
