Memorial Day
Poem★★★★Memorial Day is a remembrance and a resolution. The Jews had their Passover—‘“This day shall be unto you for a memorial.” Recall the sacrifices made for their free- dom—Abram left home and country; the nation suffered years of slavery; the Pascal lamb, lest they forget. A call to renewed loyalty—‘“Bid them go forward.” The church has its memorial—the Lord’s Supper. Recall the sacrifice —‘‘In remembrance of me.” A challenge to holy living. The nation has its Memorial Day, “lest we forget.” A forward look—Resolution: “That we highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain. That this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom.”
