Incredible Stories
Illustration★★★★It has been said that you shouldn’t let the facts get in the way of a good story. In 1943, a U.S. Navy destroyer got so close to a Japanese submarine that the ship’s commander said the cook could have thrown a potato at it. But the legend grew.
American sailors threw potatoes at the Japanese sub; the Japanese thought the potatoes were grenades and fled, and the USS O’Bannon was able to sink the submarine. The fact is that the submarine was sunk by ammunition, and no potatoes were involved. We don’t need to embellish the Bible. It’s a true story, remarkable enough.
Think of the walls of Jericho coming down—an incredible, true story. The same for water coming from a rock, manna carpeting the ground, a little boy’s lunch becoming a feast for thousands of people, and a crucified Savior coming back from the dead. You can believe the remarkable stories in the Bible because they’re stories of a remarkable God.
The point
The Bible's miracles don't need embellishment because the true stories themselves are already remarkable, since they come from a remarkable God.
