Conviction

Revelations of, ‘The law is only God’s looking-glass dropped down from heaven to enable man to see himself. Whena man measures himself by himself, or by his neighbor, he is all right, but when he measures himself by God he appears bad.

A little while before the Chicago fire I promised one morning to take my children out riding. My boy clapped his hands and said, ‘‘ Papa, won’t you take me to Lincoln Park to see the bears?” I promised I would. Soon after I went out the Soy teased his mother to get him ready so as not to lose any time.

To please him she did go. Then he wanted to go out and play, and she let him go.

He got into the dirt and got coyered with it. When I drove up I refused to take him in.

He asked, “Why?” I told him his face was dirty, but I couldn’t get him to believe it until I took him inside and held him before a looking-glass.

That stopped his mouth atonce. But I didn’t take the looking-glass to wash his face with.

Moody. 4565. CONVICTION and Salvation, A poor Indian, who had been a very wicked man, but who had become pious, was desired to tell how it was that he had been led to Christ.
