Work Out Your Salvation Like a Prescription

Analogy★★★★

IF YOU go to a doctor, he diagnoses your ailment and prescribes a treatment. He gives you a prescription for medication. He gives you everything you need to feel better, but you’ve got to work it out. In other words, you’ve got to go to the pharmacist, you’ve got to get the prescription filled, and, most importantly, you’ve got to take the medicine in order for it to benefit you. See, God knows how to measure whether we value His salvation because if you do, you work it out. If you value it, you work it out. If you don’t value it, then you don’t work it out. You ignore it, you bypass it, or you marginalize it, but what you don’t do is work it out.

The point

As a doctor's prescription only helps if you actually get it filled and take the medicine, God's salvation only benefits those who actively 'work it out' rather than ignore or marginalize it.
