Made Her Husband Miserable

To a wife’s dismay and anger, her husband changed religions, so she determined to get even. On the day that he went to church and worshiped, her plan was to make it as miserable in their home as possible. They had both been raised Orthodox and married in the Orthodox Church. Now there was a split in the family, and he was the cause of it.

The situation was extremely difficult for the husband, for he often arrived at church with obvious signs of crying. But his love for both the Lord and for her, enabled him to endure.

This continued for quite a while. Subsequently, she was invited to a meeting held by an evangelist of her husband’s faith, so she attended only to prove the error of his faith. Night after night she attended; the more she heard, the more convinced she became that the error was not with her husband but with herself.

His forbearance was a mystery to her. “I am treating him so cruelly, yet he treats me so kindly,” she thought.

The more she looked in her Bible to prove the error, the more she realized that she was fighting a losing battle. When she invited the evangelist to their home for lunch, she posed what she supposed were answerable questions.

She was amazed to hear the answers directly from the Bible. Finally, she could fight no more.

With weeping she confessed her determined resistance and spitefulness. But finally she said, “You cannot fight against love and truth.

I give up. I too want to follow this faith that has transformed my husband and now me.”
