Geocaching and Knowing God
Illustration★★★★The Bible says in Proverbs chapter 2 beginning in verse 1: ‘My son, if you will continue to incline your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding. If you cry out for knowledge and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.’ I like this passage because a lot of times I think as a young Christian myself, for some reason I believed that knowing God was a passive experience.
That somehow by just going to church and having Christian friends, I would know God. But when I read this passage one day in Proverbs chapter 2, it kind of describes how this thing looks.
And I love how it says it: ‘...for understanding, if you seek for her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasure, then you will find it.’ Now, for those who’ve ever been on a treasure hunt, does it take effort? Yes or no? Yeah. Does it take intentionality?
Yes or no? Yeah, you kind of need a map to figure it out, to find out where the hidden treasure is, right?

The point
The speaker uses geocaching as an analogy for seeking knowledge and understanding of God. Just like finding hidden treasure requires effort and intentionality, knowing God also demands active pursuit.
