Anxiety and Health
Illustration★★★★It’s now a proven medical fact that your attitude can make you ill. When you get angry, arteries tighten.
Do it often enough and you’ll bring on a heart attack that can be just as fatal as one brought on by physical causes. Did you know that anxiety can create an ulcer that’s just as painful as one brought on by the wrong diet? And a whole host of other illnesses can be brought on by your state of mind. To head off these avoidable conditions, the American Medical Association has made the following suggestions: eStop looking for a knock in your motor. eLearn to like your work. ¢Develop at least one hobby. eLearn to like people. eLearn to be satisfied when you can’t easily change your situation. eLearn to accept adversity. eLearn to say the cheerful, helpful, and humorous thing. eLearn to face your challenges and your problems with confidence and decision.
In the words of songstress Dolly Parton, “If you want the rain- bow, you gotta put up with the rain.” “So do not worry: do not say, ‘What are we to eat? What are we to drink? How are we to be clothed?’...
Your Heavenly Father knows you need them all...So do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has trou- ble enough of its own” (Mt. 6:31,33,34). 18 Apathy
The point
Anxiety physically manifests in illness like heart attacks and ulcers; the American Medical Association recommends accepting adversity and facing problems with confidence—wisdom Jesus taught long before.
