The "Big Doggie"

Three-year-old Derry went winter camping with his parents. But he wandered off from the campsite and got lost. As evening neared, his parents became frantic. They knew that the temperature in the mountains normally dropped to well below freezing at night.

For three days Derry’s parents and rescue workers looked for him. Finally, on a warmer than normal day, a rescue dog picked up Derry’s scent. The dog led them to Derry, who was sleeping in a sunny place on a hillside. Other than being very hungry, Derry was fine.

Puzzled that he hadn’t died from the cold, the searchers asked him, “Where did you sleep?”

“With the big doggie,” Derry answered, pointing to a sheltered cove.

The rescue workers saw big pawprints in the snow and the body indentations of both a bear and little Derry. Strange as it seemed, the bear had cuddled up to the child at night, keeping him warm and saving his life.

God has many unexpected ways to protect and care for His children. He says, “Was my arm too short to ransom you? Do I lack the strength to rescue you? By a mere rebuke I dry up the sea.”

We don’t have to understand how God works His miracles. Our part is to live as He’s asked us to and to thank Him for His

Warm Care.
