Latimer Preaches the Same Sermon
Historical Account★★★★Hugh Latimer day, with Henry VIII in the audience, the bishop of Worcester, Hugh Latimer, preached a sermon to which the king took offense. Latimer was commanded by the king to make an apology when he preached the following Sunday.
The bishop addressed himself as he began his sermon. “Hugh Latimer, dost thou know before whom thou art this day to speak?
To the high and mighty monarch, the king’s most excellent majesty who can take away thy life if thou offendest.” But then Latimer reminded himself and his hearers that God was also listening.
Would he guard his words carefully to escape the king’s displeasure or would be deliver the message faithfully in the sight of God?
