I Might As Well Claim Bankruptcy

Steve was attending a series of meetings. One night he heard about the importance of the Fourth Commandment. When he met with the speaker, he said, “If I follow what you say, I might as well shut down my business and claim bankruptcy.”

The evangelist asked him to elaborate. It turned out that his business was tourism. He had thirteen contracts with hotels on the beach front for which provided all the sports equipment. The greatest amount of business was usually on the Sabbath.

He also informed the pastor that a typhoon had just destroyed a third of his equipment for which there was no insurance. He also explained that he had a hundred workers and felt responsibile for them and their families. “What is more important to you, your salvation or your business? This, the evangelist asked to test the level of conviction.

He was pleased to hear the response—his salvation. The pastor then encouraged him to follow the conviction the Lord had placed on his heart.

Steve decided to surrender his life to Christ and was baptized. The evangelist then moved on to the next place of work.

Two years later, Steve called the surprised evangelist. “Got a minute?” Steve asked. He then began to unfold a wonderful miracle.

After his baptism, Steve decided to terminate the thirteen contracts. He talked and explained his new-found convictions with his employees. Their response was not cordial. They felt that he was putting their lives on the line for a stupid religious idea.

Steve stuck with his conviction. He closed his main shop on Saturday. His employees thought he would lose his business to his competitors. But it was not to be.

For seven months it rained every Sabbath. His business increased. He said that prior to keeping the Sabbath, he could never keep up with his debts. Once he kept the Sabbath, he was able to pay off $3 million of his debts.

He was now far better off financially then ever.
