Singh's Persecution
Story★★★★Sundar Singh once was put in prison in Nepal for preaching Christ; so he preached to the other prisoners, as did Paul on a similar occasion. The governor then had him thrust into solitary confinement, in a foul-smelling cowhouse tied by hands and feet, with clothing taken away, and leeches thrown on his body.
He lifted up his heart to God, and sang His praises, “Though I am a very poor singer,” he adds. His accuser said to the jailer, “What do you think of this man ? He is so happy though he is suffering.” “He must be mad,” the jailer replied.
The jailer went to the governor. “Our purpose is not being fulfilled,” he said.
“We hoped with this punishment to make this man sorry and leave off preaching, but we are only adding to his happiness.” Then the governor said, “He is only a madman : let him go.”
The point
A Buddhist parable where a mother seeks mustard seed from a house where nobody has died, but discovers through village-wide search that death comes to all, teaching acceptance and humility.
