The Companion Upgrade
IllustrationTestimonyAnalogy★★★★I HAVE Executive Platinum status with American Airlines because of the amount of miles I’ve flown. That means that I can upgrade my seating on a plane trip. I also have the option of upgrading a companion who is traveling with me. One time Jonathan, my son, was traveling with me.
When we got to the ticket counter, the attendant confirmed my upgrade. I then asked about my son’s upgrade, as he was my traveling companion.
The attendant said she didn’t have a record of Jonathan’s upgrade. I asked her to check because he was traveling with me and should have had the companion upgrade. She said she would check one more time. She went through and checked again.
And then she told me that she had found the problem. He wasn’t ticketed with me and because his ticket was not ticketed with me, he was not viewed as a companion. Now, I knew he was a companion, but American Airlines didn’t know that because we were not ticketed together.
Our tickets weren’t “yoked” together when they were booked. It’s not that God hasn’t made provisions. It’s not that God hasn’t taken care of your passage to heaven. But in order for you to experience the “upgrade” of life abundantly with Him, you’ve got to be His.
The point
A father's airline upgrade cannot benefit his son without a shared ticket; similarly, God's provisions for life abundantly are only available to those who are in covenant relationship with Him.
