Story★★★★There was a clergyman whose friend was an actor. The actor was drawing large crowds of people while the clergyman was preaching to just a few in his church. He said to his actor friend, “Why is it that you draw great crowds and I have practically no audience at all? Your words are sheer fiction and mine are the unchangeable truth.”
The actor said, “I present my fiction as though it was fact, and you present your truth as though it were fiction.” (see CT 255)
The point
An actor draws crowds with fiction presented as fact while a clergyman preaches truth as if it were fiction. Delivery and conviction matter as much as content—preachers must speak truth with visible passion and belief.
