But as soon as the dog was able to run about the house, he disappeared. “That’s gratitude,” thought the doctor. “As long as he needed me, he stayed. As soon as he didn’t need me, he ran away.”
The next day there was a scratching at the back door, and there was the little dog. But another little dog was with him. And that other little dog was lame!
