Men Are Brothers

Am I my brother’s keeper? ce. 4:9 All men are brothers. That truth is written in the facts of life and in the faith of all benign religions. There is only one race upon earth, the human race.

Men are brothers in body. The organs and functions of the body are the same in every race. The blood in the veins of men is everywhere the same; no one can detect any difference. Men are brothers in mind.

Socrates made the discovery—one of the greatest ever made—that when the great men of all races think about the basic issues of life, they come to the same basic truths. From this fact he inferred that at bottom, as in its height, the human mind is one. q0d WORSHIP RESOURCES Men are brothers in spirit. The high faith of the race is one: God is the father of the human family; every soul is sacred; each personality is an end in itself; justice is the basis of life; love is its saving power; brotherhood is its crown; a beloved community its goal.

“One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all,” said Paul. “The universe is a commonwealth of men,” said Cicero. “The men of the four seas are kinsmen,” said Confucius. “Arise, tune the harp of brotherhood,” Iphal added.

Thus all great souls join in one symphony of fraternity. Why, then, is the earth a jungle, ravaged by war, hideous with injustice, cruelty, and horror, saturated with brother-blood?

Because man will not admit his brotherhood, will not live and let live, much less live and help live. He must dominate his brother, exploit him, rule him, or ruin him.
