Church Plant's Miracle Move

We were pastoring a church back in the Detroit area. And it was a church plant that had been kind of a nomad church for 18 years. And there were, you know, those people in the church who have all the influence, those handful of folks that make all the decisions. Well, they had a motto that we were going to rent until Jesus comes.

And I had to work pretty difficultly and through some prayer to change that mindset. But We had come to a situation where they would not listen and we were getting kicked out of the church we were renting from.

We had nowhere to go. And we started looking around for other, we started cold calling churches, asking them how much would you rent your church to us? And they were saying 3 and $4,000 a month, which we could not afford. We looked into buying a piece of land and building a church.

And where we’re at in Detroit, I mean, home prices have gone up everywhere, but we were looking at like $2.5 million to build a church. We could not afford that. We were kind of like God’s people between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea. And I decided, I went before the church and said, I think we need to fast and pray.

And of course the story of the demoniac and what ran through my mind, but I started a prayer time at 6 a.m. Every Tuesday and the church members were all praying fast. We fasted for an entire day and prayed morning and evening. And we did that for 6 months.

And in the 6 months, we not only got a church in the downtown area of the wealthiest community in the county, but we got it for $500,000. It was a 15,000 square foot facility. It had a parsonage with it. The parsonage alone is worth about 375,000 right now.
