I Can’t Accept; My Mother Worshiped the Devil!

A pastor visited a man whose wife, being a Christian, requested the visit. Simon had been attending church with his wife, but he would not consent to be baptized.

As the pastor spent time becoming acquainted with this quiet congenial man, he finally broached the question. “So Simon, how do you feel about the church?” “I love it,” was the response. “The people are lovely and the message is right from the Bible.

I love that.” “When did you become a member?”

Asked the preacher. “I am not,” he said.

“What would keep you from becoming a member?” came the inquiry. “I can’t believe my mother was worshiping the devil.” Was Simon’s cold reply. Sensing that he had hit a tender spot, the pastor asked, “What do you mean?”

“You teach that the beast is the papacy, right? And that the enemy is behind her power, right? Well, if I were to be baptized into your faith, then I would have to admit that my mother was being led by the devil, and I cannot do that.”

“Tell me about your mother, Simon,” the pastor asked. I was an alcoholic. From among all my siblings, I was the greatest concern of my dear mother. She agonized and prayed for me, but I was hardened in my vice and unyielding.

Her greatest desire was to see me get sober. Then she died.”

Simon concluded, with a tear in his eye, “Are you straight now?” Asked the pastor. “Yes,” responded Simon. “How did you overcome?”

The pastor asked. “Oh, I could have never done it on my own. God helped me,” was his reply. “Well then, who answered that prayer of your mother?” inquired the pastor.

Then with a look of amazement, Simon said, “God did!” “No, Simon. Your mother was not serving the devil. She prayed to God in the way that she was taught and understood.

And the One who made mothers’ hearts answered your mother’s prayer. If your mom were alive today, she would be rejoicing and praising God for answering her prayer. The God who answered that prayer is calling you to give your entire life to Him.”
